Ezi & Aqel and Ash & I met up at ECP to skate last Sunday. It was really fun. Ash was really good. Pro in Disguise. Look at picture above if you don’t believe me. (: I was just OK. Of course need to learn from the Pro. My skates didn’t have any brakes; it was a miracle I didn’t fall. Haha. Aqel and Ezi were so cute. Of course, Ezi was holding onto the camera most of the time, although it was Aqel’s. *hint hint.

So, I almost cried listening to his speech. Though I am not a big fan of Apple (or in denial of being one. haha) I have a lot of respect for this man. He has achieved alot. The very typical-but-never-fails-to-amaze rags to riches story.

Like he said, our destination in life is typically death. We have to do everything that we wish to do in life.

From Singapore, to travel up to Malaysia (Peninsula) and then head up to Thailand. After which Burma (Myanmar), followed by Laos, Cambodia and then Vietnam. Geographically, the Philippines whould be next and lastly Indonesia. But then again, I wish to visit Sabah/Sarawak as well. On the map, this piece of land is located right smack in the middile of Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Cambodia. Hahaha. We could visit Sabah/Sarawak after Malaysia or complete the trip with it; after Indonesia?

So, in Malaysia: I wish to visit the Taman Negara and since I have not had a proper visit to KL in years, that could be one of our stops as well.

In Thailand: Since Ash and I have visited Bangkok and the Koh Tao/Samui/Pangan cluster of islands, I wish to visit Phuket and Krabi; definitely some diving. Yeah Baby????

In Myanmar: We definitely have to visit the places of interests like their Pagodas at Yangon and definitely their beaches. I’m sure they have some dive sites there!

Laos: Probably would not have any dive sites because it is right smack in the middle of Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam and China. There is no direct flight from Singapore to Laos by the way.

Cambodia: Of course, their temples and pagodas and their statues and Angkor Wat. There is a beach in Cambodia…we could possibly go diving too yeah B?

Vietnam: My grandma went to Vietnam once (: I’ll have to research on what to do there but their coast is longgggg. Can’t wait for the adventures that is waiting for ME. Lol

So far…We can travel by land from Singapore – Malaysia – Thailand – Burma – Laos – Cambodia – Vietnam; including a causeway from Singapore to Malaysia. Considered land lah huh. Haha

We probably need to fly from Vietnam to the Philippines or by water; which ever is cheaper I suppose. Research to be done later lah. I am not sure if it is the Philippines or Indonesia which has the most number of islands but I am sure our itinery will be jammed pack with diving!!!!!

Last but maybe not; Indonesia: Ash and I wish to visit Bali and Manado!!!! But Indonesia is big and consists of a few pieces of lands. And not forgeting the World’s newest nation: Timor Leste (East Timor). Apparently it was colonized b y the Portugese; just like Macau. Hahaha. Probably Medan and Palembang? And see the much raved about Bintan?

We could possibly end the trip with Sabah/Sarawak. We could go to Kota Kinabalu baby? And dive at Layang-layang? I wanna go Sipadan tooooo!

Okay, my head is spinning with all this excitement but this trip can only occur once Ash and I have saved enough money. No idea how much we need and how much time we will need. Ash and I probably need to finally invest in our own SLR and backpacks or is it bagpacks? Whatever lah.

Firstly, his sarcasm is infuriating. Who is to blame the Malay men or women?

“Too many families have collapsed because of economically dysfunctional husbands whose salaries cannot keep up with the changing times. Being “nice” will not pay the bills nor tuition for the kids 15 years down the road.”

Who exactly is to blame for this? Mr Ridzwan wants Malay women to up their standards when looking for a man? Imagine if that man is Mr Ridzwan, how would he feel? Some men were brought up by their parents lucky and educated; while others were not. Some chose to be playful. Are the Malay women suppose to discard them? In my opinion, it all depends; educated women or not? Some men need guidance. There is still hope.

And anyway, you say that Malay women need to set a higher standard (what kind of solution is that) but you frown upon those who demand their husbands drive cars?

It all drives down to the mind-set of the Malays. Mr Ridzwan, you have to be more analytical and suggest solutions (other than lengthening courting time); long term solutions that can eventually change the mindset of the Malays in Singapore and not point fingers at those who is spoiling your reputation as a Malay with a mere statistic of increasing divorce rate. Do you give yourself a 10/10 in the I-bring-money-home-and-feed-my-family-well category?

Although I am an educated woman capable of bringing home a large some of salary every month and am not a Malay, so to speak, I have been offended by your article.

The Malays are backward thinking, more so the elders, but we have to change the mindset of the whole Malay community. Parents need to play apart in educating their children from young. Instill not just the right attitude about studies but also of religion and responsibility. Parents need to play a part in being good role models. Our Malay-Muslim Associations need to play apart in educating the Malay-Muslim community about saving, education, religion, social responsibilities and family planning. Broadcasting dramas on social delinquency on Suria does not help at all.

Although there is a group of Malays that make up the elites of the Malay community like yourself Mr Ridzwan, you also play a part in helping the rest of the community in heightening the Malays’ social standing in Singapore. Your article may not have actually helped the Malay community much. You have just made people like yourself and your “university friends” agree with you. You are marring the reputation of the Malays by being very insensitive. You have painted a very ugly picture of the Malays to the Chinese and the Indians; albeit your article’s partial truth.

Ash and I finally travelled somewhere out of South-East-Asia (as how Ash likes to put it. Haha) And…it was thanks to Jetstar!!! Personally, we have been on Jetstar several times before and they offer the best deals *hint hint!

Anyhowwww, I am still suffering from the I-am-so-excited-to-have-visited-Macau syndrome and if you mention Macau to me, I can just carry on talking for a really, really (and I mean REALLY) long time. So, we left Singapore on Monday evening and landed in Macau just slightly after midnight. It was freezing in Macau! Compared to the 30degC we have in Singapore, it is as low as 16degC in Macau. Tip # 1: I suggest, you bring a warm jacket or coat (: It was so great of Jetstar to have a shuttle bus carry all 21 of us to the hotel.For those of you guys who want to know more. Macau is actually a Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China and have their own currency. It’s called the Pataca (MOP) but the Hong Kong Dollars is also widely accepted (: Personally, (Tip #2) I think you should change Singapore Dollars to Hong Kong Dollars in Singapore should you wish to visit Hong Kong!

They have only about 600 000 residents (this, I retrieved from the Map we got from the airport…heehee). They were once colonised by the Portugese. You can identify Macau’s Portugese influences from the people, from the buildings and from the language they use on their road signs, notices and building names.

Enough rattling…

We stayed in the Royal Hotel, which was superb. It even came to a point when we got so comfortable watching teevee in bed that we didn’t want to budge. Toiletries were Aigner (which I really liked!) plus we had buffet breakfast every morning at the hotel restaurant.

According to the itinery, we will spend 4 days in Macau visiting the Canidrome for greyhound racing, Ruins of St. Paul’s, the Wine Museum and the Grand Prix Museum, Macau Fisherman’s Wharf and the Docks on a S$60 (HK$330) budget. So here goes…

Day 2:

Ash and I studied the Map of Macau and pin-pointed the Ruins of St. Paul’s. Because Macau is very small, you can literally walk everywhere! Tip #3: Bring a decent pair of comfortable walking shoes (: Nonetheless, the bus services are really easy to follow. Grab a Map from the Airport. On the Map, all bus stops and available bus stops are listed! PERFECT right? I KNOW! As we were walking, we got so distracted by everything around us that we didn’t even sniff the Ruins the whole day at all.

Instead… we visited St Dominic’s Church with the adjoining Treasure of Sacred Art Museum. It was said that the church was built in the 1580s or 1590s by 3 Spanish priests but was since renovated in 1997. It is also recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Near the Church, we chanced about Senado Square. The only problem, we didn’t recognize it at first! Because there was alot of construction work going on; Chinese New Year decorations! Around Senado Square, there were alot of shops selling antique furniture. There were shops selling their speciality Portugese egg tarts, candied peanut bars and pastry (YUMMMMM!) There were also souvenier shops and some pasar-malam style stalls (: Superb! But of course on the other side of Senado Square, you can also find other stores like those we have in Singapore like Body Shop and Levis etc.

There were many sites around Senado Square but we decided to visit the Museum of Holy House of Mercy. It was built by the first bishop of Macau as an orphanage as well as a medical centre. Just like  many of the buildings we saw in Macau, this building holds centuries of history (: Also recognized by UNESCO! The cost of entering this museum is just MOP 5.

We decided to see the Ruins the next day and carried on walking, away from Senado Square. Without looking at the map, we ended up at the Nam Van Lake. From there we saw the Macau Tower, albeit the fog. The view was breathtaking! No matter how many times we tried to snap the view on our camera, we were disappointed. Only memories in my mind to remind me of the view. Also located by the lake is a row of cafes, suitable for lunches or dinners with close friends or end-of-day beer before heading home. Pretty cozy.

We realized that Macau supported grafitti on their bare walls. Like at the lake, we found beautiful grafitti painted onto the walls. All their underpasses are also full with them. The best part, their graffiti is educational! Like for example, SAVE WATER! Cute!

We headed back and checked out Grand Lisboa on the way. If you guys didn’t know, Lisboa is the capital city of Portugal. It is the most prominent building in the whole of Macau due to its unique architecture. We were awed when we saw the building from far; decided to search for it! Tadaaaa! We had a look see around and headed down to the casino. I believe it is a must to just see the casino even though you may not gamble. Hahaha.

We headed back to the hotel with some dinner of yummy meat-filled pastries and bubble tea. Oh, it was not difficult to find bubble tea in Macau. The most famous store is COME BUY from Taiwan. Superb!!! They do the mixing for you so you don’t have to vigorously shake the bubble tea drink yourself when you get it from the Aunty!

In the evening, we went to search for the row of pubs and eateries known to the locals as the Docks. The Docks is located at Avenida Dr. Sun Yat Sen and is facing the ocean; therefore the name. We found the infamous MP3. But not only that, we were surprised to also have found Indian and Lebanese food with sheesha too (just like Arab Street) apart from their many Chinese and Portugese style cuisines. But not too worry, they still have McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut and Starbucks (:

Day 3:

Today was the day we saw the Ruins of St. Paul’s. It was the most memorable place for me. Actually, it is also near to Senado Square. We missed the directions provided as we neared the area. Haha. I love the intricacies of what is left of the once Cathedral of St. Paul. I love the view of the Ruins together with the colours of the flowers flanking the steps up to the Ruins and lastly, I love the view from the top of the ruins!!! (: Adjoining the Ruins was the Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt. It felt a little creepy being in the museum. We had to be very quiet because it was a sacred place. The Art pieces were intriguing but as I left the place, I knew I wouldn’t forget about it. In a nearby souvenier shop, I bought a magnet representing the Ruins of St. Paul’s!

Toward the right of the Ruins was the Macau Museum! I have no idea why but Ash and I love museums and history. Hahaha. We spent several hours in the Museum as we didn’t want to miss a single piece. The entrance to the museum cost MOP 15/pax. Cheap! Anyway, we discovered the history of how Macau got its Portugese influence. Simply, The Portugese seeked permission from Macau to dry their trade goods. The Portugese eventually permanently settled in Macau. As trade flourished, more Portugese arrived and lived there, finally claiming it as their own.

Monte Fort was where the Macau Museum was located. It was really great being at the top of the Fort. I didn’t feel like leaving the place. There were many canons from the times of the wars. Actually, during the time of the Portugese settlement, they only built one Fort. But after several attacks, they decided that they needed more Forts surrounding the island. Nonetheless, they were still attacked from the direction of unprotected coasts; albeit far from the residents. They then erected City Walls joining several of the Forts to protect the people.

Ash and I then headed down to yet another museum. This time around, the Grand Prix Museum. The Grand Prix Museum was located at the Macau Tourism Centre and entrance was free! Woohoo!. Although we have the Singapore Grand Prix, unfortunately we don’t have a museum! It was really interesting to see the cars close up. There was also a movie screening within the cinema (:

Within the same building, we also visited the Wine Museum. Its a one-of-a-kind museum in Asia. It was really interesting to find out the different types of wines, their preparation from vine to wine. They also had a selection of the oldest wines. The oldest we saw, 1815. WOAHHHH!!!! (: In some countries they have festivals and special methods to prepare wine. There was also wine tasting in the museum!

We headed down to Macau Fisherman’s Wharf after that. From the outside, it seemed like a super fun amusement park. There were designs mimicked from Egypt and Rome. Ash and I walked all around the park and decided to try on the shooting game. It was really scary because we had to enter a narrow tunnel like corridor lead by a really big guy in army uniform. The whole place was designed to look like a war base. COOL. There were a bunch of kids playing the action version. They teamed up and fight each other! It looked like so much fun!

We then walked around the volcano and Tang Dynasty.

That night, Ash and I headed down to Taipa via public bus to the Venetian. Since the Canidrome did not have any races on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, we gave the Canidrome a miss. The Venetion is a MUST-GO-PLACE!!! They had a river fitted into the building, complete with ceilings which really had me forgotten that it was a fake sky. It was so beautiful!!! There was also gondola rides along the river just like you could in Italy. And we also visited the The Manchester United Experience where there is an Interactive Zone. You can try training like the Pros and enter their locker room (replica of the actual, of course!) haha. It was really great. Well…Ash and I are great fans of the Red Devils.

I loved the carpet flooring sooo much!!

Just across the Venetian, we visited the Hard Rock Hotel! We are big fans of Hard Rock because we love the concept and Music. The exhibits in the hotel was really fun as Ash and I pin pointed our favourite singing heroes. Jimmy Handrix’s picture was up but Bob Marley’s wasn’t. We were a little disappointed but everything else was wow!!!

Day 4:

Having completed our itinery, we reserved Day 4 for more walking and some shopping time. We chanced upon an open skating ring within a shopping mall where kids can practice or play ice hockey. It was really cool. We came across Senado Square again but this time around the decorations were done and it looked so festive! People looked so happy!

We spent so much lesser than we thought  we would. Museum entrances cost us very little, so did the buses though we only took the bus on three occasions (: All that only cost us less than MOP 80. The rest of the money we spent on souveniers and food!

The streets of Macau were really clean and we felt really safe. Everybody was so well-dressed!!! They had boots and really nice coats on, even the guys. Haha. You can smoke literally everywhere and all their attractions allow photographs to be taken! Even Museums (: All in all, I will never forget this experience I had in Macau!

If you still have not heard…I bought the iphone albeit my protests with regards to my previous attempt of owning the ipod video awhile back plus Ashiff’s ipod touch was spoilt after about a year of use? Yeap.

So..the phone is not exactly not friendly but uniquely different from other phones. The touchpad a little annoying. Those of you who use the iphone, the ‘send’ key is so damn near to the ’9′ key that I will always have a ’9′ at the end of every text i send for no apparent reason. ANNOYING. And if I try to avoid the ’9′, it will take me a gazillion tries to get my finger exactly on top of the ‘sent’ key.

FYP is so full of shit. I just wish the Prof knows what we’re going through without us actually having to tell because it might seem like we’re lazy but NO. He doesn’t even come to lab, so we don’t expect he knows our pain. The same Prof gave me a B for IA too. No one gets a B for IA, mind you. And I meant it in a WHY DIDN’T I GET an A way…

By the way, XueTong, my PG is going to Bali. She is a PRC and is spending her CNY at Bali with her husband; her husband’s coming to visit her all the way. She booked 4 hotel rooms from 4 different hotels for 4 separate nights. Hahaha. Plus she is taking Qatar Airways. She said all her bookings were cheap. She must be one damn rich PRC (: Nonetheless…happy (and envious) for her; she spends to much time in the L A B.
